# Editorial Quality Assessor

## Instructions on how to set up your project, attach the skill, and run a quality review.

*Last edited by Faustine on 15th September 2026*

### Who is this for?

Project Editors reviewing ghostwritten work — outlines, sample chapters and manuscripts — against the StoryTerrace Editorial Quality Framework.

### What do I need before I start?

- A Cowork project set up with the Editorial Quality Assessor skill attached *(see “Set up your project” below)*
- A folder connected to the project where review outputs will be saved

#### **1. Set up your project & import the skill *(do this once)***

- Create a new project in Cowork and name it something clear, e.g. **Editorial QA — \[Your Name\]**.
- Connect a folder on your computer or a shared drive where review outputs will be saved.
- When the pop-up asks *“Is there anything Claude should know about this project?”*, paste in the skill instruction so it turns on automatically for every chat in the project.
- Save / create the project. The skill now triggers automatically in every chat inside it — you never have to name it again.
- Confirm it’s live by opening a chat and typing *“review this outline”* — if the skill is on, it will ask you for the work to assess.

Already made the project? No need to start over — open the project’s settings / instructions (the same field) and paste the line in there. Everything in a project shares the skill and folder, so every client chat reviews to the identical house standard and saves to the same place.

#### **2. One chat per client**

- Start a new chat for each client and name it **\[Client surname\] — \[Book title\]**.
- Reuse the same chat for every stage and resubmission of that book — outline → sample chapter → manuscript. The thread keeps the history so the skill can check each stage against the last.

This keeps clients cleanly separated and gives you a full review trail per book.

#### **3. Upload the material + prompt**

Attach the piece being reviewed (outline, sample chapter, or full manuscript) — and, where you have them, the outline behind the chapter, intake brief, interview transcripts, and previous feedback (for resubmissions).

- **First / new submission** — *“Please review the attached \[outline / sample chapter / manuscript\] for \[Client & book title\]. Tier: \[PRO / Classic\] · Word count: \[approx\] · Book type: \[memoir / Business PRO\] · Conventions: \[UK / US\]. Supporting docs attached: \[list\].”*
- **Resubmission** — *“This is a resubmission. The previous feedback is attached. Please check each point was addressed, then score as normal. \[+ details above\].”*

Tip: give tier, word count, book type and UK/US every time — they change how several categories are scored. If you’re unsure of the stage, the skill will ask rather than guess.

#### **4. What you get back**

Every review returns the same five parts, in this order:

- **Scores** — one per rubric category for the stage, each with a quoted example from the text and one specific lift.
- **Composite score** vs. the stage threshold, with a clear verdict (ready to proceed / revision required / below standard).
- **Flags for you (internal)** — red flags, factual discrepancies, possible fabrication, sensitive content, assumed conventions. Never shared with the writer.
- **Draft email to the writer** — warm, specific, in StoryTerrace’s voice.
- **Effort guideline (internal)** — a revision time range. Never shared with the writer.

You decide, not the tool. The skill assesses and recommends; the call is always yours. Nothing reaches a writer or client until you’ve reviewed and personalised it.

#### **5. The writer email**

It comes ready to personalise — read it, add your voice, and adjust before sending.

- It names what genuinely works, frames fixes as the shortest path to standard, and never mentions time estimates, AI, or the internal review process.

Scores and criteria may be shared with writers at your discretion. Flags and effort estimates are never shared.

#### **6. Feedback implementation**

The effort guideline (internal) sizes the revision so you can set expectations. Standard turnaround:

- **Outline —** 2 days
- **Sample chapter —** 2 days
- **Manuscript —** 3, 4 or 5 days, depending on the size of the package (from 7,500 words)

Principle: strong work slightly late beats rushed work on time. Where a review needs longer than the standard turnaround, schedule a check-in call.

Daily rhythm: a piece comes in → open that client’s chat → attach + prompt → read the assessment → action the flags → personalise & send the email → save the output to your project folder.

### Who do I go to for help?

- **Skill or technical issues —** Moseley
- **Difficulty with the writer conversation, or how to present feedback —** Mireia
- **Tool output (the completed assessment) —** email Moseley, Jon & Mireia

StoryTerrace — internal use only. The assessment supports the Project Editor’s judgment; it does not replace it. Flags and effort estimates are confidential and never shared with writers or clients.
